I started my business in 2016 under the name Rosebud Creations RY until April 2021 when I made the switch to Sprig of Silver. I chose Sprig of Silver as a nod to my name; Rosemary (get it...sprigs of rosemary!) and the obvious reference to my main medium; silver. The logo and name tie in nicely with the variety of items I now focus on making which feature a lot of local plant life, other silver pieces and the bookmarks which are adorned with stars and dots.
After leaving school at 16, working in a cafe for many years and enjoying everything that goes along with being a young-un, I decided it was time for a change and a challenge. I went to South Africa to volunteer rescuing and rehabilitating wild animals for a combined time of 9 months. Once I returned to Scotland I did the same at the SSPCA, going from baboons to pigeons was quite the change! Working in pubs and cafes around my more interesting jobs over the years, I ended up suffering a bout of ill health and while recovering, I tried many creative hobbies. One of which was making jewellery, and it turned out I was pretty dang good at it! Once I had recovered, I decided I wanted to work for myself so started cleaning houses and building my creative business simultaneously. Over the years I have learned many techniques through reading (as my Grandmother always said "if you can read, you can learn to do anything."), youtube and just simple trial and error. I have always been creative and being able to turn something that I enjoy so much into a successful business is one of the many joys in my life.
I do everything here; designing and making everything, photography and edits, selling my wares, social media and building this website. Though I must admit my mother still helps me out with some of the numbers! I live in Central Scotland and adore being able to use the flora of this beautiful country to make little pieces that will last a lifetime. I also have a chihuahua called Jensen and love that I can capture a little piece of him in a paw print necklace thanks to all my skills now.
Having said all that, my absolute favourite part of this job is doing commissions. People come to me with a vision and I get to bring it to life with them, to treasure or give as a heartfelt gift. I have made kilt pins, charm bracelets, pins, necklaces, rings, bracelets, keyrings and earrings and each one has been a joy! Pictured below among my dog, baboons and I, are some examples of commissions I have made and my zodiac collection. Please reach out if you would like to discuss making something with me.
Thank you for reading this little slice of my life.
